Fifty years celebrating World Environment Day
Fifty years celebrating World Environment Day
Led by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and held annually on 5 June since 1973, World Environment Day is the largest global platform for environmental public outreach and is celebrated by millions of people across the world. In 2023,
Time is running out, and nature is in emergency mode. To keep global warming below 1.5°C this century, we must halve annual greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. Without action, exposure to air pollution beyond safe guidelines will increase by 50 per cent within the decade and plastic waste flowing into aquatic ecosystems will nearly triple by 2040. An estimated plastic pollution 19-23 million tons end up in lakes, rivers and seas annually. That is approximately the weight of 2,200 Eiffel Towers all together.
On June 05, 2023, QATPL team conducted an awareness walk, at the end of walk participants are pledged that they put their maximum efforts to
- Reduce the generation of waste.
- Reuse/recycle the generated wastes where possible.
- Disposed of all waste in an environment-friendly manner.
It is pertinent to mention that QATPL continuously contributes to save the Environment by
- Save 1.714 million tons of CO2 during the year 2022- 2023 & 9.815 million tons since COD (20.05.2018) with respect to national grid emission limit.
- Save 9,479 tons of NOx during the year 2022- 2023 & 63743 tons since COD (20.05.2018) with respect to PEQS (Punjab environment Quality standard).
- Negligible emission of SOx.
- Zero effluent discharge policy implemented.
- 2,975 trees planted during 2023, total trees of different species planted are 27,628.
